WorkBC Programs

WORK BC offers integrated and accessible services to help British Columbians be successful in finding and keeping work. As part of the WORK BC team led by the Prime Contractor Creative Employment Access Society, VIVRS provides specialized employment and life skill services to Comox Valley residents who have barriers to employment associated with diverse abilities.


Our Courtenay team specializes in providing Customized employment Services and Job Sustainment Services for individuals with diverse abilities through our WORK BC contract.  Services are accessed through referral from the WORK BC team accessed through the Employment Services Centre at the Job Shop. 


In Courtenay we provide the following services;

  • Customized Employment and Discovery Services
  • Support with connection to Work Experience Placements
  • Individualize Placement Services
  • On the Job Support
  • 52 weeks of Job Sustainment Services to support ongoing success

STEP-IN is Funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training.

Individualized Training and Employment support for those facing difficulties to find work in the Comox Valley.

STEP-IN to Employment

The STEP-IN program is for you if

  • You are struggling to find employment
  • You identify as having two or more barriers to employment such as: housing instability, recovering from addiction, prior criminal involvement, mental health challenges, lack of social network, lack of recent and/or Canadian work experience, limited literacy skills, limited English language skills, low self-esteem, low income, youth at risk, older worker of survivor or violence and/or abuse
  • You are wanting to move forward on a plan that is right for you!


STEP-IN offers:

  • Individualized employment planning and skills development to ensure long term success on the job
  • Connection to supports and services required for ongoing success in employment
  • Connection to community resources and agencies to support overall personal wellness
  • Opportunity for basic skills development, examination of personal wellness and holistic ways of thinking about self and success, and on the job training and work experience

VIVRS Pre-Employment Services for People with Disabilities Program

Are you a person with a diverse ability who needs pre-employment support to start your job search journey? ...We can help!


PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • The VIVRS Pre-Employment Services (PES) for People with Disabilities Program provides pre-employment services and supports for individuals with diverse abilities to assist them with preparation for job search or subsequently accessing other employment programs.
  • PES is 30 hours of life skills and workplace essential skills training, including basic computer training, unpaid work experience, or job placement. 
  • PES makes connections to pre-employment supports and community connections necessary to be successful in employment, including COVID-19 related coping strategies.
  • PES is offered in Nanaimo and the Comox Valley.
  • PES is funded through the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training, Covid-19 Economic Recovery Plan.


ELIGIBILITY

  • Participants are Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents or Protected Refugees
  • Are not employed full-time or are not full-time students
  • Self-identify with having a disability
