WorkBC Programs

  WORKBC offers integrated and accessible services to help British Columbians be successful in finding and keeping work. As part of the WORK BC team led by the Prime Contractor Maximus Canada Employment Services, VIVRS provides specialized employment and life skill services to residents of Nanaimo who:

  • Identify themselves as living with a disability
  • Have multiple life challenges that make employment difficult
  • Are survivors of violence and abuse

 All services at VIVRS are tailored to fit your needs. When you meet with a VIVRS Customized Employment Coordinator, you will work together to choose the services that will be of most benefit. Examples include:


  • Customized Employment Services
  • Vocational assessments to identify career interests, transferable skills, and personal strengths
  • Specialized assessments to identify accommodations needed in the workplace, or during training
  • Personal counselling to overcome the impacts of abuse
  • Individual coaching to help you manage a disability or challenging life circumstances
  • Connection to community supports that improve health and functioning
  • Employment counselling to help you reach your goals
  • Access to competency based training to prepare for employment
  • Job placement and work experience placements in your area of interest
  • Assistance with your job search, resume and interview preparation
  • Practical support when you begin work
  • Onsite job coaching and support to the job seeker and employer
  • 52 weeks of job sustainment support  

SKILL-IN: Nanaimo

Are you ready to boost your skills through Training or Employment?

SKILL-IN is Funded by the Ministry of Post Secondary Education and Future Skills. 

Individualized Training and Employment Support for those facing difficulties to find work in Nanaimo.

The SKILL-IN program is for you if:


  • You are struggling to find employment
  • You would like to increase your job readiness skills or need support accessing crucial community resources and supports to acquire basic needs
  • You identify with a diverse ability or two or more barriers to employment such as: housing instability, recovering from addiction, prior criminal involvement, mental health challenges, lack of social network, lack of recent and/or Canadian work experience, limited literacy skills, limited English language skills, low self-esteem, low income, youth at risk, older worker or survivor or violence and/or abuse
  • You are a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Refugee
  • You are not employed full-time or are not a full-time student
  • You are wanting to move forward on a plan that is right for you!


SKILL-IN offers:

  • One-on-one support with your Individualized Training Plan
  • 20 hours of Skills for Success Training
  • Access to Vocational Assessments
  • Support with job placement, on-the-job training, and job sustainment

OR

  • Further skills enhancement through substantive education (up to 1 year duration)


For those who may benefit from pre-employment services and supports, SKILL IN "PES" offers pre-employment services to participants in preparation for job search. 


Services include:

  • 20 hours of Skills for Success Training
  • Access to Vocational Assessments
  • Access to Short-Term Orientation & Certificate Training (E.g., First Aid, Food Safety...)
  • On-the-job training through a Work Experience or Job Placement
  • Connection to additional community resources & supports necessary to be successful.
